House District 19: Peggy Hussey

“Education means jobs. As we focus on economic development and bringing jobs to Mississippi, we must ensure that our children have the skills and background to make this state and country great. Supporting our educators with competitive salaries, classroom supplies, less testing but more efficient testing and accountability, lower teacher/student ratios and career/technology options for students will return confidence in our Legislature and state government.”

A native of Lee County, Peggy Hussey graduated from Mooreville High School, attended
Itawamba Community College and received a Bachelor of Science in medical technology from
Mississippi State University. After graduation, Hussey served as a medical technologist for 20
years. She then went back to school to earn a master’s degree in teaching from Mississippi
State University. Since 2004, she’s been teaching at Mooreville Middle School.

Besides teaching in public school, Hussey also gives back to the children in her community by
teaching Sunday school at Auburn Baptist Church, supporting the United Way through its
Summer Backpack Program and volunteering at Vacation Bible School.

She has been married for 36 years to her husband Stan, a registered nurse. The couple has two
adult children: Chip, a civil engineer, and Chelsea, a high school teacher.
