House District 31: Otis Anthony

"I believe that in order to compete regionally and globally, our students must be given the tools necessary to do so. In order to do that, we must attract and retain high-quality teachers, use advanced technology, and modern equipment as our counterparts in neighboring states."

Representative Otis L. Anthony is a product of the Indianola Public School District, and his two children, Colee and Reagan, attend the Sunflower Consolidated School District. Both of his parents were educators, and his wife, Porchia, is a third-grade science and social studies teacher at East Sunflower Elementary. He believes the state’s funding formula, the Mississippi Adequate Education Program (MAEP), should be fully funded.

Anthony, a Sunflower County native, graduated from Gentry High School and Tougaloo College. He earned a bachelor’s degree in theology from Agape College, where he is also working on his master’s degree. He owns Anthony and Company, LLC, a Primerica financial planning agency, and pastors two churches in Lexington: Westgrove Baptist Church and Sweet Home Baptist Church.

A former alderman for the city of Indianola, Anthony is currently serving on the boards of several community organizations including Main Street Indianola, Indianola School District P-16 Council, Sunflower County Consolidated School District P-16 Council, Gentry High School Leadership Advisory Board and the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Gamma Upsilon Chapter.
