House District 53: Rita Wilkinson Goss

“My family and I support public education. I believe, if we want to attract new industry to Mississippi, we must have a strong public education system. We must attract and retain teachers by providing the funding necessary. I will work together with teachers and administrators to accomplish the goal of a strong public education system in Mississippi.”

A native of Brookhaven, Rita Goss graduated from West Lincoln Attendance Center and received an associate’s degree in data processing from Copiah Lincoln Community College. In 2015, Goss earned a Mississippi Collector of Revenue certification at Mississippi State University.

An account manager at Gulf Guaranty Insurance, Goss previously served as Lincoln County tax assessor and collector from 2012 to 2016. Before that, she spent several years as a teacher’s assistant at Mamie Martin Elementary School and as a substitute teacher at West Lincoln Attendance Center, learning first-hand the issues that teachers face.

Goss is an active member of Gum Grove Baptist Church, is involved with West Lincoln Future Farmers of America Alumni and is a Make-A-Wish volunteer. She and her husband, Kenneth, have a daughter, Emily, who graduated from West Lincoln Attendance Center and is a student at Mississippi State University, studying to become a fine arts teacher.
